A bunch of unruly voices were coming from different directions, and one person was screaming on top of his voice trying to control them: No, I am not talking about a second standard classroom. I am talking about the Indian Parliament session that convened yesterday to cast their confidence vote.
I saw a part of this session yesterday, like many others, curious to know the political future of our country. I was appalled by the chaos that prevailed in a meeting that comprised of many Indian politicians. The politicians should be ashamed of themselves for exhibiting such unruly and barbaric behaviour at the very heart of India’s political system. And what’s more disheartening is these are the people who rule or hope to rule our country.
The basic pretext of why the parliament convened yesterday, according to the political parties was to decide what is "good for the people of India." The India-US Nuclear Deal is undoubtedly one of the most the crucial decisions for India and ideally one would have expected the members in the parliament to listen with undue attention to what others have to say, if they were really working towards the interest of the public.
But unfortunately these politicians do not have the basic civility and patience to spend a few hours to listen to others’ perspectives in order to take the right decision. They refused to listen and also prevented millions of others from understanding what some of the politicians had to say with regard to the issue.
Do you think these politicians will even attempt to listen to what 6 billion people in India have to say?
This has shown that politicians are focused on money and power, and will go to any despicable extent to acquire that. Lack of interest in the people and emphasis on one’s self (or one’s own party) reflects today’s Indian politician. Only a good listener can be a good leader and there are barely few politicians who we can bank on to lead India in the right direction.

Muthu - I agree! We all know the corrupt nature of our Indian political system and yesterday's political drama only re-emphaises it!

Our dear Ramya Rajaraman,
That's the way our India is being led by these corrupt & most oppertunist politicians behaviour.
The much awaited INDO - US Nuke deal was deliberatly delayed by UPA and when things like series of defeat in state elections, price raise, oil price inferno, inflations went beyond their control, they prefered this bramastra for their survival- the result their old honey moon with Left coming to an end and new found love with Samajwadi Party & few small parties honeymoon.
The UPA has never let any of its armour and ammunitions right from Bribery, Plum offers of minsterial posts to criminals and what not?
Whole world witnessed the Live telecast and these leaders had no shame to exhibit their lust for power.
There is yet another bonanza waiting to fill the coffers of middle men, politicians by the way of a booming 100 billion $ Nuclear fuel business once the deal went through.
Unfortunatly Congress never bothered about re-negotiating the contents of 123 or Hyde act.
Let India be at the mercy of super powers is their egoistic approach.
We have a politics without scruples, without principles, without common decency and without common prudence .
"UPA [United Progressive Alliance, the governing coalition] wins vote, loses trust,"
It is at best a pyrrhic victory which will delight only those who have scant regard and ever less respect for ethics and probity in politics.
Realities always a bit harsh and nothing more to add on our performance at Loksabha yesterday.
